Registration is an annual requirement for confirmation of enrollment. Returning students complete an information update each May. Fees may be paid at that time or mailed directly to the Administrative Office prior to the July deadline. Students who transfer to another school as a result of a change of residence will be required to submit proof that they continue to reside within District 220 boundaries. Incoming Kindergarten students may complete registration at the Spring Kindergarten Registration.

Students new to the district may register in person at the Administration Offices during the summer months or at their respective schools in August. This date is published in local newspapers or may be obtained by calling the Administration Office, 381-6300, or the individual schools.

New Student Enrollment

To enroll a new student, parents must submit a certified legal birth certificate (hospital/baptismal certificates are not acceptable), two proofs of residency in District 220, physical examination and immunization records, and any previous school records.

Required Physical Examinations

Physical examinations completed within one year prior to the date of entrance are required for all students transferring from out-of-state schools as well as those entering the following grade levels/programs: Early Childhood, Kindergarten or First Grade, Fifth Grade, Ninth Grade. The Illinois Department of Public Health requires that students show evidence of having received immunization for diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), tetanus, polio, mumps, measles, rubella, and hepatitis B. State law requires all students, K-12, show proof of receiving two doses of the measles vaccine and three doses of the hepatitis B vaccine. One dose of the Varicella (chicken pox) vaccine is mandated for early childhood through grade 4.

A dental examination is also required for Kindergaten, Second and Sixth grade. Forms for recording both examinations are available from the individual schools or the Administrative Office, as well as from this website. Parents or guardians who object to examinations or immunizations on religious grounds are not required to submit their children or wards to either, providing they present a signed statement to this effect.

Transfer of Records

Students transferring from another Illinois district should request transfer of their records to District 220. In the case of transfer students, a period of 30 calendar days, beginning with the first day of school attendance, shall be given to meet these requirements.

Non-Compliance

Students who have not complied with these policies by the first day of school attendance will be excluded from school until notification has been received by District 220 that the appropriate procedures have been completed.

Proof of Residency

The following will be accepted as valid proof of residency:

  • Notarized lease
  • Sales Contract
  • Mortgage Deed
  • Tax Bill
  • Current Utility Bill (Gas, Electric, Water)
  • Food Stamp Issuance Document
  • DCFS or Unemployment Card
  • Medicaid Card

Parents who reside with relatives or other individuals in the District should provide a notarized letter to that effect, as well as two proofs showing name and address of present homeowner. Parents must also complete a residence affidavit.

Students who transfer to another school within District 220 as a result of a change of residence will be required to submit proof that they continue to reside within the District boundaries.

If no proof of residency is available, a home visit will be done.

Materials Fee

A materials fee, established annually by the Board of Education, is required for all students, including those enrolled by District 220 in residential, private, or SEDOL classes. These funds help defray the costs of paper, art supplies, and workbooks that the student uses during the course of the school year. In addition, individual schools distribute school supply lists, and parents are requested to provide the items according to their child's grade level.

Students whose families meet the federal income guidelines for free lunch from the previous year's free/reduced lunch program are eligible for fee waivers. Fees will also be waived for students whose parents are receiving ADC and those under DCFS or any foster home placement.
